Signals in Time

Progressive Rock, Neo-Prog

LOOK IT'S THE EP THE SITE IS NAMED AFTER

EP three-of-four, this was my first *real* attempt at a full progressive rock effort. At this point, I had been trying to write prog music for five or six years, but it was always weak or just out of place among a bunch of bedroom pop type stuff. I must say, the pendulum swung back hard given this is a three track EP with two almost 9 minute songs on it.

"The Death of Ulrich Ludwig Speckmann III" is a fun one. The 'story', if you want to call it that, tells the tale of a WWI dogfight: Part I is called "Somewhere over the Ancre" in reference to the Battle of the Ancre in 1916. Part I is a quiet calm-before-the storm, but also a sort of sombre funeral dirge that's a sign of things to come. Part II called "Strutter/Albatross" is in reference to the two types of fighters involved and symbolizes the actual dogfight. Part III, "Fateful Descent" is, well, the end of the Albatross. The solo during Part III was done by a good friend and great guitarist named Collen Roller. Now who exactly *is* Ulrich Ludwig Specmann III? Well, its a nod to a very good friend of mine named Werner Speckmann; he's helped out on a few things of mine here and there and I value his experise and input.

Not much to "Solar Winds". Very much Pink Floyd pastiche. I liked it too much not to include it.

"You Are Not Alone" was written in May 2020 during a very turbulent moment in US History. It was hard seeing things online and in the news and I just wanted to sort of vent my feelings through the song. I'm very proud of this one; it came together so easily.

Overall, "Signals in Time" was sort of the turning point for me that raised my standards for what I deem quality enough to release. It is also the first in a trilogy: followed by "Visitors", and then...well, you'll see :)
